There are many different types of tea filters that are used with loose leaf tea. A filter, or infuser, is a must have when you love whole tea. Some of the basic types of filters can be used along with a tea pot or an electric tea maker.

Basic Styles

There are several basic types of tea filters to choose from. The simplest and most often used tea filter is an infuser, but there are also more options to choose from. The most commonly used tea filters include the following:

  • Tea infusers come in lots of different varieties, including built into tea pots and tea mugs. Mesh infuser balls are also readily available and easy to use. An infuser simply holds tea leaves and is in the hot water while the tea brews.
  • A traditional type of filter looks a lot like a reusable coffee filter and is used along with an automatic tea maker, which is a lot like a traditional coffee pot except the tea makers are typically smaller in size and only hold one or two cups of tea.
  • Single cup tea filters, or strainers, are made from stainless steel or bamboo. These strainers hold enough tea for one cup and are used by pouring hot water through the strainer into your cup.
  • Filter papers work like regular tea bags. You simply fill the bag with the tea that you want to use and place into your mug of hot water. You can find both individual sized and larger sizes to make pots of tea.
  • Cup tea filters have a built in mesh filter right on the lid. These cups are usually for traveling with your freshly brewed tea.

With the many different types of tea filters available you can more easily find an option that suits your personal tastes and lifestyle well.

Choosing Your Filter

You may want to have a few types of tea filers on hand to use at different times if you love to drink tea. For example, you can prefill your tea filter papers with your favorite blend for a quick cup in the morning. An infuser travel mug is also quick and convenient. Many tea drinkers like having an electric coffee or tea pot that can be used to make hot water quickly, as well. Even if you are using an infuser you can make your hot water with the electric tea pot then add the tea whenever you are ready using your infuser filter.

You may also need to experiment with the types of tea filters available to find the ones that you like best. For instance, some people don’t like throwing away tea filter papers so they opt for a stainless steel infuser ball or infuser stick, instead. Reusable tea filters are among the bestselling types available. You have lots of options to choose from, however, so you can easily find the tea filters that you like best with some experimentation.
